GENDER EQUALITY IS A SOURCE OF MARRIAGE BREAKDOWN.

Gender equality has been said to be the source of marriage break down among Tanzanian societies. Speaking to the Nyakyusa women on the sources of massive marriage breakdown among couple, they said that marriage break up because everybody in the family does the right to do anything he/she wants.

Marry is mother of five children who is married to Mr. Elias said in her  growing age, parents were very strictly to marriage by considering it as one of the family respect.

Women were supposed to respect her husband by any means and women were not allowed to go back home for any family misunderstanding.

Bride price were considered as one of the marriage lock where women were not allowed to undergo any divorce as the method to run away from her family problem.

Women were taught to be tolerant to their marriage thus why couple managed to live together even for a long time regardless of the problem facing until they become elders.

“women were supposed to be tolerant and never run away from her family because of any misunderstanding within her family and respecting and following husband’s order was the marriage’s survival secret”, said marry.

Recently we have experienced marriage break down due to the struggle done among women and some NGOs which want men and women to be in the same line in terms of power and control, something which has weaken the marriage status.

Now days women can ask for divorce and laws has been provided to allow couple to ask for divorce any time she/he wants.

Much more Marry said globalization has contributed much to the marriage break down because in the past they were growing in the area where it was very difficult for them to move from one place to another with comparison to now days where any place can easily be reached.

Also marry said that in the past women cared for their children something which is impossible for today where everybody care for herself.
